I have some AIAWA (sp?) POS that he previous owner put in, and yesterday it took a CD and won't eject it or even recognize that I have one in there. What should I do? I am most likely gonna get a different headunit, but I want my CD back
Otherwise what you could do is disconnect the battery and hopefully it'll reset the stereo and spit out the cd (have someone near the stereo to catch it as sometimes they eject and retract the cd upon receiving power). Worse comes to worse, and I hate to say this, but try tweezers and a rag. I've done it before and worked ok. Scratched the cd a little bit but I just burned a new copy once it eventually wouldn't read anymore.. Good luck!
Anybody have any suggestions on brands to look at? I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I want a CD player/AM/FM radio that works and has a easily readable clock/display.
I'm a HUGE Pioneer fan (just bought the avic-n1, couldn't be happier). Kenwood, Alpine, etc. Stick with the big dogs, they make inexpensive/basic units that are affordable.
I did some research and some google searches and this is what I came up with:
You will need the following materials:
1. assorted screwdrivers
2. needlenose pliers
3. wire cutters
4. beer (optional)
First disconnect the battery (safety first!) and rip that AIWA crap out of the dash. Place the unit on a work table and carefully unscrew the cover (if you are using the optional beer, this would be a good time for a sip) Use whatever method works best for you, I like the pull and snap method. Finally, pull out your CD and finish beer. If you did everything right, your result should look something like this:

Sorry guys, but I couldn't resist!!!
I read this post and I saw the pile of AIWA next to me and well, I just had to do it. I know you can't see any traces of the AIWA name, but this is (was) an AIWA that was in my brothers truck. First the RCA's went out, so he used a low level converter. Then the display went out. Then the CD got stuck in there. Well my brother isn't the most patient man, so this is what he did. I would recommend Eclipse, Alpine, Pioneer, and/or JVC. I would not recommend Sony (old stuff was good, not the Xplode stuff), kenwood (unless its the Excelon stuff) or AIWA!!
All cd players have a reset button. Pull the face of of it and there should be a little whole on the stereo behind the face push it with a needle. You will know if you hit it right because you will hear it reseting itself
I finally got the CD out without removing the head unit. I knew there was a reset button and I had tried it 5 times b4 posting. I tried disconnecting the battery and nothing there as well. So... this time I have a friend hold in the reset button, while I disconnected the battery, and viola.
