Temperature sending unit...
The temp gauge does not work on my 91 F-150 4.9L. I bought a new sending unit but I can't seem to locate the bad one. Can someone please point me to the area where this is located?

Passenger side, back of the block, right under the exhaust manifold. It's impossible to get to, never mind see, from the top. Easiest way is to pull the starter. It's much easier from there.

Andy's correct about the location HOWEVER you can get to it from the side, god know I've replaced enough of them over 20 years on 5 different trucks. Throw a blanket over the fender and get up high enough so you can reach under the intake runner for #6 cylinder. Simple to do, and if you have the new one in your left hand you can screw the old one out and immediately screw in the new one. Lose about 4-6oz. of coolant if you do it right.
All you need is a deep socket, a 8"-12" extension, and a ratchet.
