In the last couple of weeks, on 3 occaisions, after starting off from being parked, my engine(300 six, auto) has started to break up, almost stalling, for 15-20 seconds and then returns to normal. Twice it was already warm, only parked for a short time, once it was cold.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem, but, lately, I've smelled some raw gas and noticed gas dripping from the fender near the front tank. I haven't used this tank for more than a year because it, simply, stopped working. I use the rear tank as I have not had time to anylize the problem with the front.
It turns out the gas is leaking from the front tank! I guess the return line is feeding into the front tank, although I don't know why it took so long for the tank to fill. I turned the switch to the front tank and left it idling in the yard to run some of the fuel out of the front tank. It ran and I have put about 15 miles on it with the front tank. Twice it starved for fuel and I switched to the rear. I understand the filters are supposed to last forever, but, could I be having trouble with them?

hello, if you haven't fixed it already the selector valve was recalled that year. i have the same prob in my 87. they changed to check valves and had the same prob. fuel moving from one tank to another. it will spurt out the unused tank when full and under pressure. if you do a search here for selector valve you will find some answers and a link to the part for $70+. mean while dont fill your tanks and switch back and forth. mine returns to the rear so i just use that one. good luck. my mech couldn't figure it out and haynes leaves out the info.. i learned all about it searching here.
You may also want to check the condition of the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. When they get fouled with carbon it has a tendancy to cause the engine to run rough, cut out and sometimes stall. On my 351W efi, it is attached to the side of the throttle body. 1 connector and 2 screws hold it on. Not sure where it is on the 300.
