coolant leak @ #1 plug

I have a 97 with a 5.4 in it. The motor has 90000 miles on it. It has a coolant leak that I can not find. It fills up the # 1 spark plug and coil pack hole and causes the motor to miss fire. I can see the coolant dripping off of the back of the motor. But, this does not happen everytime the motor runs. It takes about 2000 miles for it to miss, that is, after I get the water out. Any suggestions on where to look for this leak?

There are heater hose lines that run over that cylinder, and are most often the culprit in this case.

You could put some dye in the radiator fluid and pinpoint it exactly. This is often the number one reason why that particular cylinders coil burns out.

Better get it fixed quickly as the coils are a bit spendy.

Leaking intake gaskets can cause this too.

Where can I find dye to put in the radiator, that will not harm the system?

You can find the dye at virtually any Napa, Autozone, etc.

Sorry about the "Welcome to FTE?" typo... I meant "Welcome to FTE!".

Thanks. I will try this and hopefully it is a heater hose and not the head gasket.
