Wierd Noise!! Help!!
I own a 2000 F250 with a 5.4L and 119,000 miles. At startup the engine makes a high pitched metal chirping sound. First I thought it sounded like a bad pulley but the sound seems to be coming from the starter motor. The sound becomes louder and faster with increased RPM and it typically stops by the time I pull out of the driveway. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it dangerous? Other than that noise the truck runs like a top. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

I once replaced a water pump on one of my old trucks because it was making a loud sound like that. Only to my surprise it turned out to be a bad belt. Take a look at it first if it looks at all worn replace it first it is the cheapest thing to start with if you are not sure where the noise is coming from. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the advice guys, sorry for the long response. I think the starter may be staying engaged and I will check it out. The truck is an automatic. The noise does not seem to be coming from any of the pulleys or belts but I will certainly check it for wear. Probably not a bad thing to replace anyway
