Actually, I have a pretty good sense of humor. I just draw the line at a new truck screwing up my deer hunting...gotta wait for a week or so for the new tranny.

In any event, you just got a bad one and it sounds like they are going to fix the problem.

Not sure about the tranny being sealed. My brother-in-law is a Ford tranny specialist and all he said was the factory told him not to open it. I know he's been to school to work on the 4R75E. Yeah, they're going to fix it and I'm sure glad it happened under warranty. I'd rather put the money into upgrading the performance than repairing. Know anything about the tuners? I've complained about the throttle response since I've had the truck. I really don't care to move to premium fuel if I don't have to.

It looks like the transmission has issues. The vibration investigation looks like it is headed toward the transmission as the cause. Mine starts to vibrate as soon as the truck goes into overdrive. Dealer says a new TSB will be out around Thanksgiving. How appropriate!

Agreed. Isn't it great how they take something that's proven to be reliable, "improve" it, have the public road test it and then find out it has "issues". I guess all engineers need jobs. Happy Thanksgiving!

JIMK5504 - They do not use a E4OD on the 5.4 they use 4R75E four-speed automatic transmission, an evolution of the 4R70E. Enhanced to take the higher torque output of the 5.4.
I ahev a 7,000lb plus boat with a 2wd 3:73 LS Lariat SCREW, and have no problem with backing up a hill.
I think you have trans or torque converter problems.
They told him not to open it , so they can do an analysis at the factory.

There are enough people hauling weight to indicate that it is not an engineering/design issue. I'm pulling around 8,300 lbs with my 5.4L 3.73. I can back it up hill no problem. I also installed a transmission temperature gague and backing doesn't result in borderline fluid temperatures. In fact the highest temperatures I experience are at highway speeds for extended periods of time and these are still in the safe range.

Not that it matters since you aren't towing all that much weight, but you didn't mention whether you have the towing package or not. The towing tranny cooler comes as part of the towing package.

MotorPsycho...good point on the tow package! I ordered mine with it even though I don't plan to tow much...many benefits; transmisson cooler, larger radiator, heavy duty alternator and battery, harness set up...well worth the money!

Yeah, it's got the towing package/w the cooler. It's got the 3.55s./17" wheels. It tows great going forward, I hardly know 3000 lbs is back there...backing is the issue. Like I said, I think it's been this way from day one. I'll find out when they put in the new tranny. Right now, it backs up like it's in second or third gear...especially with a load on it or on an incline. J
