Hi, I have a friend that wants to give me a FE. But doesn't know the C.I.. The block number is c5ae-a the heads are c4ae any help would be appreciated.
Well i did some checking on the Net. What i could find is that the block could be a 427 or a 390. The heads could be 427 high rise. What do you guys think?
High riser heads?? Probably not. Those are like hens teeth and worth good money. It would also have a 2/4 intake on it. From past experience I don't think there was a single 4 intake made for high riser heads. At least not by Ford.
I agree, without pulling a head and doing some measuring there is NO way to be sure. The one way to check for a 427 is the cross bolts. Now, there are some that might not have been done, but that is a slim number.
I'd bet it's a 352/360/390. Seeing that the casting numbers are 1964-1965, I'd bet it came from a pickup or galaxie.
If the block is a 65(C5) it would be a 352 or 390. The car engines then had gold paint on the valve covers and Blue on the 352. I have found in the past if you pull the oil pan and look at the crank, the 352's had sqaure throws on the crank and the 390's had chanfer cuts on them. Has anyone else seen this?

The 65 352 in my truck has gold valve covers... If you pull the oil pan, there should be an ID number stamped on the crank, that will tell you for sure.

C5AEA could also be a 330HD truck block. And the C4AE heads were available on 64-65 352/390 motors. You are going to have to dig in and do some testing to find out what you are working with, can't always be lead by what you read.
