I have a 1990 For ranger,2wd, std trans, 2.9L. It has a severe problem that I cannot fix. It all started when the prev. owner tried to bypass the clutch switch. After this the engine would not run. The only way I can get it to run is pull one of the sparkplugs out, hold the gas to the floor and crank it till it starts. It still doesn't rev good or even try to idle. As soon as I put the plug back in it won't start. I have changed ever thing I know except the fuel regulator(which I have ordered), and the injectors. I have tried a computer, plugs, map sensor, coolant sensor, control module, and it has a new pump in the tank, and a new relay. I check two of the injectors and the ohms read 14.7, A new injector read 16.7. I didn't have specs to go by so I haven't changed them. Also my OTC scanner gives a secondary pump failure, Could this supply to much fuel?? My pressure gauge shoes no more tha 45 psi while cranking which is within specs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you get spark and fuel to the cylinders with the plug in? Have you corrected the clutch switch? What KOEO codes numbers do you get? IS the engine compression normal? Any vacuum leaks? Sorry for the questions just need some background. 45 psi is normal.
