Well, the governor has pick his choice for the new DMV chief and guess what? the chief wants to do a road tax on all of us,put GPS devices in our cars, trucks and anything else that hits the road. Call the Governor and tell him to pick someone else,we had one re-call, we can have a total recall also. This has gotten me mad as hell
OBDIII. It's been coming down the pike for 10 years. The on-board-diagnostic computer (OBD), third generation (III) talks to the road-side receivers (or satellites) to transmit failures and you are notified by "BIG brother" to get your car fixed. It can also transmit speed, so you get speeding tickets by mail, and location, so if you're at a ***** house you might get busted. Been coming down the pike since the mid-90's. You been asleep???
The idea is to charge by the mile, instead of by the gallon, just a way for government to "punish" us for buying vehicles that get better mileage and giving them less money. The GPS thing is just wild statements on how we would be charged if they wanted to make more "toll" roads, that is, charge a higher rate for more congested roads. Otherwise, all they need to do is just record the mileage every time a smog check is done and send a bill.
The current fuel tax system is still the most "fair" way to pay for roads and encourage energy conservation at the same time. Heavier vehicles driven more miles pay more, light ones driven less pay less. This guy is nuts and this idea will go nowhere.
Oregon has started their polit program of 7 cars with GPS and a computer that transmit to the pump.Buying a old car won't help, if Oregon plan goes all the way thru the car owner will be require to install these devices.
