Just took delivery on an 05 F-150 KR SCREW with the 6CD MP3 radio. I loaded the first CD into the radio, waited, went to load another and got a CD ERROR message and the first one I loaded quit playing. I took the truck back to the dealer the next day to have a few other minor problems addressed and thought that the radio would be just a minor issue.

My Ford dealer, come to find out, does not "do" radios. They have a tech who services many area Ford dealers and is only on site a couple times per week. He just happened to be there the day I took mine in. The tech said that he could not keep that particular radio in stock and would have to order another one, and that the CD which is "stuck" inside will be mailed back to me when the radio is disassembled. He also said that my specific radio would need to be programmed once it was installed in order to work correctly.

I don't know if the radio tech was just full of cheese or if all that is really necessary. I also wonder if the MP3 radio is a dawg and that is why he can not keep them in stock. Since I don't know anyone else with this type factory radio, maybe the experience of this forum can bring me up to date.

If you have a problem with the CD player getting "hung" and not working properly, pull the radio fuse to re-set it....and make sure all your MP3 CDs are finalized.

Yob2kanobe... Thanks but...

I saw that thread, pulled fuse #7 Radio and Fuse #22 Radio Delay power to completely power down the radio... Still have the same "CD ERROR" message when powered back up.

Hey I had trouble with my radio also. Same story that they needed to send it to Denver for repair.. They just took a radio from a new truck on the lot and replaced mine on the spot.( Might have been what was wrong with mine in the first place?) I was happy with this and didn't to make a service app that is 70 miles away.. You might just ask them. I was realy pleased..

tell them you don't want the truck unless it has a working radio in it today. if you just took delivery yesterday you have 3 days by law to back out of the deal. I would be willing to bet you will have working radio befor they lost a sale. just my $.02

The 3 days to back out of a deal "buyers remorse" laws are different state by state. I Oregon....once you bought it..you bought it. The lemon laws are different though. My 04 manual says that my radio plays MP3, but when I tried it, I just got an error message.

No buyers remorse
Thanks for your input

Normally, I would have been hopping mad about taking delivery on a $40K (MSRP) new truck with a broken radio, but there are other circumstances.

My KR was purchased through my son's D-Plan and there were a few calling cards exchanged in the final deal regarding my trade. Business and network associates would suffer if I were to pull out of the deal or cause a scene, so that is not an option. The dealer will make the radio right, in time, I am sure. As I am waiting, the radio tuner part works just fine, that is why they left the HU in the vehicle as opposed to swapping it from another unit, only the CD/MP3 part does not work.

My greatest concern is the radio HU itself. It seems that I am not the only person to have trouble with the 2005 6CD MP3 HU. There is another thread on this forum, discussing MP3 problems with this same unit. My problem is that it will not accept or reject any CD, even after the fuse(s) were pulled and the HU re-initialized.

To make this thread a little more clear, this radio has an MP3 logo just below the CD insertion slot. The 04 6CD does not. The two radio's (04 and 05) don't even look the same when set side by side. They are both double DIN but the buttons are different. I checked the dealer lot myself (when I took mine back for service) and there were only three others like mine out of about sixty new units 04 and 05 trucks.

The bottom line is, I absolutely love my new KR SCREW even with a broken CD player. I could not duplicate the deal I got anywhere. If the 05 6CD MP3 HU turns out to be a piece of cra*, it will be a constant warranty issue for FORD unit they resolve it. If anyone else out there is considering this option, be sure to bring 4CD's and two MP3 discs with you on the day you do your test drive. Buyer Beware!

I called Ford to complain about my 2004 audiophile stereo not playing MP3, and he said it should play them. He said that all audiophile's, 04/05 should play them, and if it doesn't, there is something wrong and to take it to the dealer. My radio does not have the MP3 logo on it, but it does say in the 04 owners manual that it is a MP3 player as well. I am going to try and make them give me new unit that plays MP3's.

You sure your side by side comparison is not comparing an audiophile unit next a non audiophile unit.

I'm not sure what you mean. I have an audiophile unit for sure.

I have an 05 with the Audiophile and my unit does not have the MP3 logo and it does not play MP3s. My owners manual says that the MP3 HU will be late availability in the 05's. I accept that my HU is working the way it should be because it plays CD just fine and it sounds great. However, I do remember reading somewhere that you can flash the HU to play MP3s. Does anyone have any info on that?

I read on the ford direct site where you build the truck and there are two different six disk radios.one is for audiophile and does not play mp3 format. The other plays mp3 format but is not available with audiophile.Go to the site and try to build a truck both ways.

You can't get MP3 / 6 disk / Audiofile all together?? That's F'd. I guess it doesn't matter anyway for me, I am replacing the entire system. Anybody want to buy a complete audiophile system.....HU, Speakers...and sub??

6CD MP3 Audiophile
Dr No is right!

I thought my radio was audiophile 6CD with MP3 but it is NOT. You can not get all three in one package and I do not have a SUB.

This is the one I have:

AM/FM Stereo/6-Disc, In-Dash CD Changer w/MP3 Capability (Includes Speed Compensated Volume Control) $300.00
