I'm more of an e-mail type person. Not to mention a little anti-social so I don't really have a need for instant messaging many people. Most people I know are in town so I can just phone them and long distance doesn't cost 'that' much.

I use AIM to talk to all my friends. Nearly everbody in my school has a screen name, and we all know eadchothers screenname for the most part.

I realy never turn my comptuer off, so my aim is on 24 hours a day. when I dont want to talk to anybody, I just put a away message on.

I use ICQ, AIM and MSN - I communicate with many people using it - occasionally I get a ?? from someone I do not know, and usually ask who they are. Security is a thing I take very seriously, so my system is secure, even with the program running that I use as an aim client. The sopftware running in windows for the messengers is not very secure, but the dedicated client running in linux is as secure as anything out there. I have professional hackers trying to find holes in my network all the time - I pay them to do it. So far, they cannot get into my linux network, and as soon as they can, they will tell me how to solve that loophole problem, so they can't get in anymore. After having my network blasted 5 times, over 20 computers ruined in 10 years, and having criminals trying to destroy evidence that I would never keep on a network computer, I got linux, and have no security problems since. I can't run anything on it, can't hear things, play things, or see movies, but it sure is secure.

We use AIM, Yahoo, and aol chat. Both with and without the webcam and voice chat. The worst thing about it is all the "sales ladies" constantly popping up wanting us to check out their sites. We get around this by using the friends & family only feature.

Any of you tried Miranda? I don't much like microsoft anything, but I share my computer with my wife and she talks to her family out east. So I installed this one and it reads icq msn yahoo and others from the same box, no spyware, doesn't tie up resources and there's only one program to open when she goes online. Just my 2 bits.

Same thing as Trillian. It uses AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, & a couple others in one program. You log onto Trillian & you have fired up all your messaging programs in one.

Hell, at least you got friends!!!

I have very few people on my buddy lists (mostly family). I'm not much into chatting anyhow.

wow, I totaly spaced it and for got to follow this thread! good responces and yes I should have made it a poll. I never thought it would get this much attention after a few days. but yea I use AIM mostly and a old java version at that, because it doesnt have the share capabilitys and it therfore I have less chance of being taken advantage of. I always figure if I want to share something the other person can recieve or send it thru the email call me paranoid but concerning computers conected to the internet, less open ports and connections is better. Thanx 2 all that posted, interesting reading!

I have used them all and I still have a Yahoo account for my band's web site.
I started chatting online several months after my wife passed away over 3 years ago, just for conversation. Now, I use the telephone to talk to family and friends that are far away, what with long distance rates so cheap now.

I use aim and yahoo messenger, but after getting hacked on aim the other day by some random person i never knew and still dont' know, I think i'm gonna drop using aim. they didn't mess with anything other than the people on my buddy list, isn't it great. I was talking to my girlfriend on here, usually talk to her on the phone, but sometimes through aim, and some guy hacked her, got my name, hacked me, and just a continuous chain, threw up my firewall, swapped to yahoo messenger and continued on my day. as far as i can tell, nothing was messed with, but it's only been a week.

My son updated that AOL instant mess-u-up program last week and I found that it dumped other junk on my PC along with the update. I started noticing other highlighted and underlined words in the forums besides the ones FTE does. I ran AdAware and it found a bunch of junk and got rid of it. I came back into the FTE forums and it was still doing it. After an hour or so of searching my hard drive I found a new program called "word text" so I zipped up the files in it and came back here and it was gone.
If you run the mouse over one of those words you see that it links to a search page called "searchmeup.com"
Who knows what else it does, so I deleted it.
