hello everyone.ihave a 2000 ranger 2x4.all i want to do is raise the front about 4 inches.isnt there someway of doing this without draing my checking account.the rear is already lifted about 3 inches.it will be mostly for looks and iwould like to run larger tires.also what is the difference between a lift kit and a body lift kit if any.thank you.chef mcgoo.
Well I honestly don't know if many companies have lifts out for the 2000 yet but I would think that most of the major companies would have them or be in the process of making them. Could look into companies like Fabtech, Sky Jacker, Explorer Comp (I think, maybe not) and there are some other ones. I haven't tried any of these ones before mainly because of the price tags I've seen on them for my truck with is a 96 Ranger 2wd. A company called James Duff was the cheapest I found so far so I think thats what I'll be going with since they specialize in the Rangers and Broncos anyways. But I think they don't have anything for 98 and newer. As far as lift kits, basically you've got a body lift and a suspension lift. I know this is going to seem kind of stupid but the only way I know how to explain it is that a body lift lifts just the body and a suspension lift lifts the suspension. With a body lift...it'll just lift the body so you're going to see more of the suspension underneath the truck. Where as with the suspension lift...the body and suspension are still together just the suspension sits higher. I hope this helps some and wish you luck with whatever lift kit you decide to purchase and have installed.
I'm not familair with lifting trucks, but I do know a few things. If your truck is a 4cyl, you're gonna loose power at the rear wheels. Adding bigger tires will reduce it even more. And if you lift your truck 4" like you want to, you might have to mess with the steering, extend your brake lines, and do some other stuff. Then you'll probably need a camber kit to correct your wheels so that you don't drive in slanted tires. All of these things aren't cheap. To add to what James said, a body lift is just some plastic or rubber bushings that replace your old ones to make the truck body higher off the frame. It offers no off-road advantages, but it will allow for taller tires. With a body lift, your shifter may have to be modified because it is dropping 4". The suspension lift will help out when you're off-road, say if you're going over a big rock. It will absorb more of the rock so that your truck doesn't tip. But since your truck is a 2wd, you wouldn't stand a chance off-road. Beleive me, I've tried it. Hope the info helped. Good luck. -Kevin
Kevin is pretty right. No matter what engine you have...bigger tires and lift will always produce more drag and more weight and rob power from the horsepower being delivered to the rear wheels. And yes, things like the steering and brake lines will need replacements too. Depending on the kits you buy...its possible that these replacement parts are included. For off roading...2wd isn't that great stock but if you get some kind of locker or posi-traction. Some seem to say can really compete with some 4wd setups. Don't forget that with the lift you'll want to invest in something to keep from rolling your truck. Hope this helps some and good luck again.
I have a 2000 Ranger 2x4 and I am getting Camburg spindles for the front to raise it up 3" and 2" Add A Leaf's for the back. That way I can run 32x11.5 tires and 15x8 rims. Go to www.camburg.com . They have the spindles for $425 and AAL's for $70. Save your pennies!
