Here in NE you'll see 90% Fishers, maybe 'cause they're made locally (in ME, I think) Good rig, my only complaint is the angle pistons are wimpy compared to the old Fishers - you used to be able to push yourself out of a hole with the angle pistons, try that with the new ones and it just whines...
The MinuteMount is just that though - works real well, and 90% of the weight is lefft behind when you disconnect the plow...
I have a 7'6" BOSS Straight Blade Super Duty. RT3 Mounting system is so easy. If I remember right go to the BOSS web page and you will see a monkey putting the plow on the truck. Trucks with Meyer plows always have the plow lights and frame still attach to the truck year round. Don't care much for lugging around unneeded weight. Snow Way Plows way to expensive, three times as much as a BOSS/Western/Meyer. Boss has the same options as SnowWay but without the downpressure. But who needs that with 900LBS hanging off your front end. Boss very fast with no chains all hydralic. After looking at Meyer/Western/Boss .Boss offered more for the money. Thicker cutting edge/more trip springs/Thicker gauge steel/shock absorber.
Meyer/Western you can find parts for these plows all over the place so what's that tell ya.
I bought a fisher 8' HD, fish stick....2004 f-250 sc lb...had my first experience plowing last saturday (massachusetts), all ready lost a shoe. don't worry i'm over it. everything seems to be fine, no complaints. but than again what do i know, its my first year.
Thanks fellas, keep them coming, I was leaning toward that new Meyers Ez-mount Express, but might be tipping the scales toward the Western Pro-Plow 8'. I like the mounting system for it. Although the Hiniker throws a wrench into it.
The Western is the heaviest of the three Boss-Western-Meyer, the newer Westerns are super easy to take on and off (under 20sec.!!!) Just as fast or faster then the Boss, the Boss and the western both come with 4 springs, but the Western is made of thicker metal. One problem that I have is coming in\out of fields my Western Unimount plow frame grabs the road or field, so every time I go in\out I am taking asphault or dirt out, the newer Western only come 1in. lower then the bumper, the first of it's kind! I do love the look of the Boss mount though, and the fact tha I can raise\lower the mount for the height of my truck, as I can with my Unimount.
Yeti sums it up correctly. It all depends on what area of the country you live in as to which plow will out number the others and appear to to be the plow of choice. All the top plow manufacturers have quick mounts now that don't leave hardly anything on your truck. It will all come down to what features you want and what plows are readily available in your area.
8' Fischer, minute mount here, came with my truck. Was only on for one snow season. it seems there are some changes incorporated in the MM II that are real nice ,and very needed. In the area near Syracuse NY, where we get lots of heavy, wet snow( Lake effect all winter from Lake Ontario, which doesn't freeze over) the "lay over plows" like Meyers and Western are at a disadvantage. I'm not in love with the Fischer but it works well for me, I did remove the drop stand and installed a trailer jack in it's place for easier adjustment.
