1. My truck is pulling to the right everytime I brake. Sometimes just a little and somes times more. I have replaced pads, rotors, calipers, and had alignment done. Used all OEM parts. I don't know what else I can do. I'm a pretty good parts swapper but I are not a real troublshootin' type mechanic.
2. I have a knock or a bump somewhere in the frontend when I hit a decent bump. New ball joints upper and lower both sides. New front wheel bearings (or should I say $320/each hubs). New Sway bar end links. Still getting a knock. I used the overhead crane at work to lift the front end completely off the ground then put a 6 ft pry bar under the front tire and shook furiously and I can't get it to do it.
I took it to a local shop and described both symptoms. They drove the truck and agreed there is a problem. After 1 1/2 hours of searching they couldn't find anything and didn't charge me for their time. They also said the shackles and leaf spring bushings looked good. I don't want to go the local dealer - they are terrible.
I replaced shocks at 100k. I have also been under the truck and tried to torque every bolt and nut I could see including calipers, etc. Everything seems tight as a banjo string.
Oh yeah, the parts I replaced were worn out, I haven't just been throwing money at the problem.
Any body got any more suggestions? I gotta get about another 18 months out of this truck before I need to get another. Am I just being picky? I am a salesman and I depend on this truck to make a living. Thanks for any responses. murph
#2- I had the same bump/thump/knock noise on mine (97F250). The problem with mine was the front shackle upper bushing. You know, the one inside the frame rail. I had no idea what was causing until the shackle actually broke in 2. Good thing for me the break was high enough that the shackle was still lodged in the frame.
At least on the 97s the upper bushing can/will deteriorate so that all looks well, but, the shackle will bounce around the bolt thus causing a thump.
Hopefully something that simple
Mike
The tire pressure is ok , I keep up with it pretty good. Brake lines and bushings - relatively cheap parts. Looks like I'm gonna have to sneak into our shop after closing time and use the overhead crane again while the boss is away and some of our techs are in there working overtime.
Thanks guys
Murph
Have you verified that none of your steel brake lines from the master cylinder to the anti lock brake module and down to each wheel are not pinched or kinked? Is your ABS light on? It also could be that both your problems are related in the sense that when you apply the brakes the front end shifts and causes your truck to pull to the right. I would say if it is pulling to the right the problem is on the right hand side of the front end. Also keep in mind that if your rear end is shifting on the left side during braking it will cause it to pull to the right but you would probably feel the rear end move under hard acceleration.
