On the front leaf springs. If a person increased the length of the rear shackle only by two inches how much lift would that give if any?
I think it would only raise the front end by 1/2 the amount of the shackle increase. What I mean is that if the shackle is 2 inches longer than the factory shackle then a person will only gain one inch of lift since the front attachment of the spring remains the same.
What I am trying to do is raise the front of my truck 2 inches ( or 1 1/2 inches) in addition to the current approximately 8 inches I have now. What I did was put a Tuff country add a leaf in the rear in addition to the lift kit. I like the suspension increase but has given the truck too much rake in the rear end. Two inches in the front will level the truck.
The front suspension is a multi leaf by Superlift.
If you want 2 more inches in the front your best bet is to just get a 2" front hanger kit. That will come with the new front hanger and whatever is needed for the shackle in the rear. Superlift, and i believe rcd or bds offer a 2" hanger.
Other mods will be needed such as brake lines, pitman arm, trac bar, sway bar links, and your drive shaft. Might also consider x-over steering...

good luck.
Thanks - everything will be good to go except the brake line which I also believe Superlift sells.
My friend had a set of 4" shackles and I was thinking about just using one to get 2 inchechs of lift - It would have been free...
are you sure? I know that 2" longer hangers and shackles will give you 2" of lift... but when you only do the shackles.. dont you only gain half of the amount as he had said?

That is exactly what I was talking about. It just seemed logical is all. If a person does the shackles only the amount of lift will be divided in half as the spring rotates along the axis of the axle...
if you just increase the shackle in the back you will get a little more than half the lift increase due to the location of the axle bolted on the spring.. there is more spring behind the axle then in front of it... this will incease you caster a good amount and you would need to probably get on an alignment machine to see if your still good to go.. it would increase the angle of you front driveline u joint allot too... had 3.5" hangar kit and consider just adding longer shackles to get more lift, but after looking into it, and see how adjusting the caster is hard as hell to get right ,i just got a entire 4.5" hangar kit to replace my old kit... its more expensive but the right way to go.. i may have a 3.5" kit to sell if you really want to go up? it will be a couple weeks till its off though.
