Im thinking about letting one of my guns go... Im in a bind.
I have a Winchester 30.30 w/ a 3-9x40 scope on it...
I was wondering what you guys think its worth.
Very good shape, shoots good, scope is less than a year old
Any guess's on what its worth?
no clue, mines priceless. Its 3 times older than me and has killed more deer then most of my friends guns put together. with no scope. Somebody's got to know.
Yea, thats what i was thinking... not gonna get near what it's worth to me
Mines actually a Sears version... Ted Williams edition... worth less to some, more to others.
Very good gun... hate to part with it but i may have to
I have a Remington model 710 in .270 but i've had to buy it twice... so no amount of money could ever be worth it.
I listed it for 350 neg.... before i actually had an idea what it was worth.
I'll come down a bit... but if someone wants to pay 350 for it... let them. lol
Its just a "wishful thinking" type thing... that if it sells i can pay off a way behind credit card...
Bills are killing me... behind on everything...
Ever since my son was born, and i lost my job w/ the state... ive been struggling bad
almost went from 9.75 an hour to 7.40 an hour, and no insurance at all
Anyways, sorry for rambling and thanks for the information
My gun buyer guide 2003 edition lists them in good condition at $125 so the scope is probably worth more than the rifle unless it is a octogan 1of a 1000
or an unused commemrative model of some kind .
Still trying to figure out why one would have a 3X9X40 scope on the most accurate 100 yard 30 caliber rifle on the market that is not designed to do much more than scare something after that . This does not include those imaginarry 250 and 300 yard shots that people make with them .
I frequently nail the bullseye with my Winchester model 92 30-30 at 100 yards. Heck, I get in the kill zone at 100 yards with my Winchester 44 mag. I use these two guns when im in thick bush and need something light, and short for some quick shots. The 44 for thick bush, and the 30-30 if im going to sit in a small clearing.
My favorite gun for any distance shots is my Swedish 6.5 x 55 mauser. Awesome gun.
The reason I have a scope on it is because
1) my brother wanted one on it
2) I like to have a scope to use like binoculars at times
3) Just because I had the scope laying around. haha
I had a scope – offset – on a Winchester once. Killed many hog and deer, coyote and wild dog, at about 200 –250 yards with that 30.30. Killed a crow once at 112 yards (that’s how far it was from the back porch to the end of the cornfield.)
I have killed more deer with a 30.30 (I have a Marlin now) than with any other rifle. Good little gun.
MathewC: Would that Mauser 6.5 X 55 be a M-42B auto loader or is it the bolt action repeater ?
I have 2 M-42 B's and one of the bolts and use only Norma ammo in them which they were designed for .
The only rifle I own that is more accurate than the bolt for long range or competetion shooting is a Oy Tikakoski 7mm mag custom which is glass bedded and has a rangemaster with a 500 mtr drop compensater mounted on it .
Quite a difference in price though as I only paid $89.95 for the 6.5 X55's.
Those that shoot more than 150 yds with a 30/30 of any breed should take a serious look at a ballistics chart to learn that at 100 yards, Awsome , at 250 yards one can almost catch the slug with a ball glove and they will not penetrate a cotton sheet hanging loose on a line .
Knowing your weapon and its capabilities is what brings home the meat or the trophys.

If you sell the gun, take the scope off. I dont think it will really add to the value of the gun. Also you can mount it on another gun or sell it seperate. As for the gun, $150-200 depending on the shape.
In a private sale the scope will add some value, but selling to a dealer the scope is valued at the cost of the mounts unless its something really special.
as dehermesc mentioned the scope isnt worth anything to a dealer but to a private individual it would be.
just for some info- i bought a 1974 winchester 30-30 with a scope on it ( 3-9X40 ) 4 years ago from a friend.
this particular rifle had fired 20 shots or less- the guy bought it new, sighted it in, put it in his gun safe and never shot it again. no rust, no scratches... it was litterally in brand new condition. still had a box of bullets he bought with it.
i payed him $250 for it. but the newer models arent built like the old ones were... higher production means cheaper price, but if its in great condition and has a quality scope $250 might not be too much to ask for it, winchester is a higher quality rifle than marlin so keep that in mind.

It is, if I remember correctly, an m92B, from the Carl Gustaf factory, circa late 1800's. Bolt action. It has the long 28" barrel, and the flip sight ranged for 2000 yards. Circular range disc on the stock, as well as the threaded tip on the barrel. It was passed down to me by my grandfather and I love it. I have used the 139 grain Norma ammunition on it, which I prefer, but I also use Winchester 150 grain which is not as effective, but more readily accessible.
