Hey what is the valve timing supposed to be on the 352 with the crane 901 cam? I cant remember what I set it on and its driving me crazy. Is it -4, +4, or 0 on the crank gear? I guess my memory is going out the window among other things.
I am not an expert on the 901, but I'm sure that it has advance already ground in. It would likely be installed at 0. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm thinking that it does not have any built in timing. When it is installed, did you have any chioces as far as degree marks or keys. I'm going to say it was a 'straight up" install, which inherently sets your timing at "0" when everything is bolted up. Was your timing pointer at "0" when you installed the dampner? You will want an initial set at 6 degree BTDC, so rotate your crank to the 6 degree mark and instal your distributor with the #1 plug port on the cap getting the contact with the rotor.
I just went to Crane's website and looked up the specs on the 901. It looks to me like it's ground with a 112 lsa and a 107cl. This would mean that it has 5 degrees of advance ground in. It should be installed straight up 0.
Thanks a bunch guys, I have the adjustable timing set and am *pretty* sure I installed it on 0. I also went to cranes website but Im not familiar with all that valve scientific stuff.
We are on the same page here... Cam timing is set at 0 or straight up. The ignition timing should be set at 6 degrees BTDC (or 10 for us folks in the high country). I am using the same cam in my build...
