I was under the truck the other day and it occured to me, how is a 4'' downpipe going to fit up to the turbo? I am planning on installing a bolt up kit myself and just don't see how it will fit. Truck is a 2001, 7.3 automatic, ext. long bed.
I installed a Magna Flow system 3 1/2 down pipe straight 4 back. 4" downpipe will fit and its tight. We've had to support the cab and drop the frame a little to squeez them in.
Powerstrokedlariat,
My truck is the same year as yours. The 4" downpipe on my MBRP exhaust fit with no problems. When positioned right, before tightening the next section, there is good clearance all the way around the pipe. Had to cut the factory downpipe to remove wthout removing the trans x-member. That was the only hard part to it.

How do you like that MBRP exhaust? That is the exhaust that I'm contemplating getting...
I went with a Banks 4" turbo back kit. I know it doesn't look like it will fit, but honestly it will. It can be a little tight in places but it bolts up just fine. As everyone else has stated you have to cut the old downtube to get it out unless you feel like dropping the x-member. I also got the power elbow with the kit, which replaces the ebpv and housing. This way I have true 4" from the back side of the turbo down. I hated the ****ed off vacuum sound in the winter when it was warming up. I think the pictures are still in my gallery.
