My dealer is telling me that an alignment requires 'special' equipment or procedures not known to non-Ford shops to perform the correct alignment on this truck. Also very expensive...
True or false??
Also premature tie-rod wear on this year?? Bought new tires and the guy can wiggle the front end. Only 34,000 miles.
Thanks,
Tommy

Reason: Added information
Are you still under warranty? There was a letter sent out to most F150 owners about how to properly check the tie rods, but it was not a recall. Do a search in this forum for "tie rods" and you will find more info. I would assume any good alignment shop should be able to properly align any F150, not sure if the dealer is trying to pull a fast one on you.
yeah, you might have bad tie rod ends and the dealer is just blowing smoke up your butt when he said only the ford dealer can to the alignment. the only special part you need is a camber kit that any alignment shop can install then align the front.
i recently paid around $75-80 for this camber kit. there's nothing magic about it. Ford uses some stupid shims (in different colors) at the factory, therefore this makes one buy the camber kit. No shop is going to fool around with different shims, plus not knowing what size to order. another great ford idea.
Been there done that. There is tons of comments on the tie rod ends on this site... but after searching on the web about this, seems they are more prone to go out at "parking lot speeds" and in a sharp turn. i guess the sharp turn causes a high load/stress at that extreme point. i don't think i saw a single report of one going out at hiway speeds. Ford did change the supplier of this part, inner and outer. imagine that. I went moog all the way. not taking any chances. pr
my camber kit came in my lowering kit from bell tech. the place that aligned my truck charged me almost $200 to have the kit installed and the alignment done.
