I do apologize, but as a new user I haven't mastered the search function yet....
From what I am reading, it looks like a 3.5 inch downpipe should be plenty if it can be made to fit in the small space between engine and firewall. Some ways back, I read a thread about moving the firewall back a little bit to squeeze a 3.5" downpipe in on a pre 99 250?
Sounds feasible-anyone else try it besides the original poster?
I won't even pick the truck up for 2 days and am planning mods already!
Screwed up the post a little bit-sorry. The real question is about the feasibility of using a scissors jack to push the firewall back. Anyone else try that?
the 3.5" down pipe will fit its that pesky pinch weld that is down there is the problem. it just takes some pacients and you will get it in there i took my floor jack and stuck a piece of pipe up there and bent it out of the way that way. after my 3.5" dp its 5" strait pipe that dumps out infront of the rear wheel now
From what I've seen, most downpipes are 3" until they get past the firewall, then they flare out to 3.5". In another thread, they were discussing a new downpipe from Tymar that goes from 3" to 3.5" and then to 4". From my understanding, on the pre-'99 trucks, it's hard enough to get a 3" in, much less a 3.5"!
As I understand it, the TYMAR downpipe flares to 3.5" once it clears the firewall, and expands to 4" near the end. It eliminates the need for a "reducer" to expand the system to 4".
