I have a 1979 F250 w/ a 351 mod. recently i let my brother drive and blew the engine. I have a truck in the back that is a 1978 F250 w/ a 460 in it. I am going to switch these engines but don't know if i need anything before proceeding into this task.
Providing you have both trucks complete, both are automatic or standards(not one of each) then you should have everything you need to do the conversion.
everything is there, they both are auto. and have run at one time. we bought the both of them in a package deal, we drove them both home, the 351 has a better body so we parked the 460 in the yard and now i need the engine. Are the engine mounts and exhaust going to fit into the 351 body?
The tower's in the 351M truck will work with the 460 motor mount's. The exhaust manifold's might work, kind of depend's if you are putting the 460 in a 4WD or 2WD. I presume the 460 is in a stock 2WD truck? Everything else should be a simple bolt in swap. Use the accesory bracket's from the 460 on the truck you are putting the motor into.

no the towers won't work that is why several companies make swap motor mounts for this converstion, but if you have both trucks just take and swap the towers also then you can use stock 460 motor mounts instead of expensive swap mount kits other than that it's is a straight forward just take everything out of the 460 truck that is under the hood, and bolt it into the other one.
Thanks,
I will let you know how the swap turns out. I am at college so i will do the swap over thanksgiving break and hopefully be driving back to school. Both trucks are 4wd.
