Registration Woes

So I move around a lot. And my truck moves with me. Anyone got any suggestions about how I can avoid paying around $100 in registration each year when I move?

Basically, I registered in Febuary in Pennsylvania. Now I've moved to Virginia, and it's gonna cost me $85 to register here. But I don't think I'm gonna be here much past April, at which point I'll be moving out of Virginia (not sure where yet), and I'll surely have to register my truck again in the new state!

Anyone got any advice on how I can avoid this (without staying in one state)? I thought it was supposed to be the UNITED States, not the "charge-my-***-every-time-I-relocate" states.

Someone suggested that I register my car in New York State (where my mom lives), and then just update my insurance every time I move. But it seems that New York would require me to have New York Liability Insurance (regardless of where I'm living) for my registration to be valid . . .

Anyhow, does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks a ton,
Nick

Stay away from Kansas, tags an registration will run well over $300 EVERY YEAR if you have a newer vehicle.

I don't think its totaly legal but do the thing with your parents address. Do you have any brothers or sisters in another state? A good buddy in another state? I beleve you basicly need an address to get regestered in that state but still need access to your mail from that state so having a PO Box would be a pain to try and get to evey week or month. Having someone you know forward the mail or forward the "important" mail would be best. Again I don't know the legality of this. Also you may want to keep a liscence from that state because the cops frown on you having a local liscence and foreign(differant state) tags on the car(I know this cause I had to come up with a good excuse once) unless it is not in your name and your driving a "friends" car.
If you are moving around because of your job see about your company letting you use there main address. It's a thought.

well here's a suggestion, go get a CDL in your parents/family members home state , which will cover you in all 50 states, as was mentioned before register your truck/car in the same state, this will be your permnent home of record, about the same as the military does, your insurance will have to meet the current statei n which you stay in.

I wonder if having commercial tags would be easier?

Most states require you register your vehicle there within a certain amount of time of moving there. Having a CDL doesn't change that requirement.

Move to Florida. Once you register there, you can register thru the mail over and over. I know a few people who do just that....and havent been there in years.
