I have a 87 f150 with 4-speed. The shifter is totally jammed. I took it off the transmission and the only arm that moves is the 1st/2nd shaft, the reverse is jammed in the far back position and the center shaft is jammed in the forward position. Is there some trick to getting all of these to move?
trentmw, sounds like a New Process 435 box. T-18 second guess. You should see the three gates with a slot were the shift lever fits. With a large "clean" screwdriver pry one or the other gates back into the neutral (center) zone. A spring and ball will locate the detent. The pins in the shift cover between the ***** also lock in the shaft detents to prevent engagement of two gears at once. Even with brand new tops you can shift fast from reverse and forward and engage tow gears at once. This will lock up the box. After many lock ups i replaced the interlock pins with longer pins in the shifter cover. Now is a good time to replace the nylon pads on your shift forks. Carl....o&o>......
Trentmw, i forgot on the last post, if the drive train is under load, driveshaft and engine holding torque on the trans you won't be able to slide gears. My box would engage 2nd and reverse at the same time. This gave me lock up or reverse, great when in traffic about once every two months. Carl.....o&o>....
