i have a 97 f150 4.6 ltr ,engine pinging when accelerating
and when coming to a stop rpm fluctuating below 500 and returns
to 550 constantly doing this check engine light on please help.
The first thing is to pull the trouble codes, since the Check Engine light is on. I've heard here that your local Auto Zone parts store will read the codes for you if you ask.
Pinging in the 4.6L is usually due to carbon build-up the Throttle Body and intake. The passeges from the EGR elbo to TB tend to get blocked with carbon.
The wacky RPM @ idle is most likely the IAC (idle air control valve) problem. Good chance it too is "gummed up"
