Exclamation Deer Are Out!!!!

I was driving home tonight from work and came scary close to hitting two deer at once! This arose an arguement at my house and I want you all to give me your opinion.
Here is my opinion,

My insurance deductable on my truck if I get in a wreck (collision) is $1000. I think it would be a good idea to go ahead and get my westin grille guard (aprox $600) because it sure would be better than paying $1000 to get my truck put back together. I do understand that a grille guard does not completely protect your truck when it comes in contact with a deer but the repair bill would be much cheeper.

Now my wifes opinion,

No!

I would get the grill guard, because if you have it you will never run into a deer. If you don't get it you will probably hit one next week. At least that is the logic I try to use with the wife. Of course if you get the grill guard and never hit anything, she will say it was just a waste of money. I had to quit buying trucks because the wife went to the jewelry store every time I brought one home. Funny thing though, if I sold a truck the jewelry didn't go back.

I think, either way you look at it,it is still going to cost you a grand if you get in a wreck. With the grille guard, you still get damage to the hood, grille, and headlights. That means to replace the grille guard $600 and hopefully only $400 for the rest.Without the grille guard, you would then probably need a new core support and radiator, along with grille, headlights, etc. So either way you are still out a grand.Grille guards are ok,but they are not really designed to take that kind of impact.

Yep the deer are certainly out. This weekend I HAD to go home for pheasant season and between Hanston and Jetmore on the way to garden city I hit a doe in my 77 going round 70 mph. jump right out in front of me all i had time to do was let off the gas. luckily it hit right in the middle of my truck where i have my homemade bumper. Damage done? blood and guts on my truck :-( didnt do a thing to my bumper hood or anything. This is the 2nd deer ive hit in my life and wow i never seen a deer sliced like it did this one. Really messy. Glad i finally did get around to building that bumper otherwise my front end would of been smashed. Really spooky

Go with a real bumper, I have hit 2 deer and even a cow (only about 30mph) no damage other than the cow took out my off-road lights. The fur is a little hard to get out from between the bars though lol.

I've seen an Easley grill after it hit a deer at 60 mph. No marks to the grill or the truck and the guy never left off the gas as the truck drove over it. A grill guard set up correctly will minimize damage.

Get the guard but $600 is high, you can do better.

Duane, how exactly do you go about running into a cow? Did it just bolt onto the road?

How about this, My boss hit 2 horses on his way to work and had a ranchhand gaurd so all that he did was break a little plastic in the grille insert.
