I have a tilt column from a 73-79 truck and want to install it in my 70 camper special...I have searched, but cannot find a how to?
Any suggestions, web sites, instructions or warnings??
Thanks
If the column is from a similar rated truck(IE 3/4 ton or 1/2 ton) simply unbolt the existing column, and bolt in the new column. You might have to lengthen or shorten the rod that runs between it and the steering box a bit, but that's nothing a welder and a cut-off saw can't accomplish along with a measuring tape. Make sure the column is also out of a 4x4 or 4x2 depending on your application here. There is a difference between the two in that regard. If yours is a 4x4, use one from a 4x4.
Thanks, I quess my biggest concern is with the electrial wirring and the neutral safety switch...
Biggest thing here is to pay attention to, and put on paper, the wiring colors from the donor truck to the truck recieving the transplant. I used a wire tester to test the wires inside my transplant vehical, and then took the wheel off the column to see which wires were hooked to what inside of it. I verified this by leaving the key turned backwards onto accessory to verify after hooking each wire up. Everything worked for me, it's a bit time consuming, but it will work.
I remember reading a post where the guy added power steering and instead of changing columns, he disassembled both his old steering column and swapped the actual rod into the new column.
I also added the power steering to mine at the time of column change, along with the front disc brake differential and intermittant wipers. All parts came from a donor 79 Bronco.
I had copied and saved this from someone else, and I don't remember who.
67-72 steering column pin out.

Thanks John.. I'm a bit confused, On your listing the "Big Connector" you refer to is on the later model (1978)column..right?
and when you stated:
"Connect the following color wires together".
White/Blue Stripe on steering column: Connect to White/Blue Stripe on big connector" Is the column refered as original (1970) one?
I hope My question make sense???
How do I set up the neutral safety switch?
Thanks again
