1978 4x4 diff. help

I am trying to find out the identity of the front diff. in a 1978 f-250 that i have the opportunity to buy really cheap! The axle code is B4R. I know that B4 = 4.10 limited slip, but what front end does the R designate? Anyone out there know?

I'm not sure about the 'R'. The truck likely has a Dana 44, though some F250's did come with the Dana 60 (Snowfigher plow trucks and some CrewCabs, possibly others). Both axles have 10 cover bolts and look very similar, except the 60 housing is a little bigger and the axletubes should be larger diameter too. The Dana 44 should have ball joints on it and the 60 may have kingpins instead of balljoints in that year.

It means Power steering. It's a D44 up front. Same code as mine has. 4500# axle.
