I'm not real knowledgeable when it comes to lifting trucks, but I have an 04 PSD 6.0 F250 4wd and I put 33's on it this weekend which rub slightly. I am now going to put a leveling kit on it and am looking at tuff country's 2.5 inch kit which uses mini-spring packs and longer U-bolts. Is this method acceptable? I would like to retain a near factory ride and I don't do any aggressive off-roading, but I do need to use 4wd often to get back into hunting/fishing areas in Utah. I don't know whether I should go with a stiffer leaf spring, different spring hangers, or the tuff country kit. Any help would be appreciated.
I've been looking to buy a 4x4 lately and want to lift it for off-roading. I'm also a mechanical engineer and I find something wrong with just using a block and some longer bolts for the rear. Just about everyone does it though so I'm sure it works. If you want to spend a little more you can get variable torsion leaf springs that shouldn't affect ride too much, they also add travel. If you want something cheaper I would say get new spring mounts. This won't effect ride stiffness but won't give you more real travel either, just clearance. For the frount I haven't figured out what the best option is since I dont' know what needs to be changed for the stearing and support.
dmgiff, if you are looking to maintain a near stock ride go with a hanger kit which will lower your existing springs, but give your truck some lift. Most of the guys on the SD forum are running Edge, Fabtech, or Superlift hanger kits. Hangers kits will give you a lift of 2, 3, 3.5 inches depending on which one you go with. Mini spring packs or replacement springs will stiffen the ride some so it won't be the near stock ride you were looking for.
