Chip Access

Can anyone tell me how to get the computer module box out of a 2000 Exc.
I've taken the plastic retainer box off and don't know how to get the plug off to gain access to the metal box. Is there a interlock or some kind of latch that needs to be released ???? Also when I chance the chip is it advisable to disconnect the power source (battery) before I perform this procedure ????

The electrical connector should have a bolt on it. Remove that bolt and the PCM should slide out of retainer.

You should ALWAYS disconnect the battery when working on anything electrical.

Thanks for the reply...Is the bolt on the top or the bottom. Or do I just need to feel for it ? Problem is access is very limited, but I'll search around and see if I can locate.....

Open the hood. The computer box sticks through the firewall down low where the battery is. There is a 10mm bolt attaching the wiring harness to it.

Where is the Chip in a 2001 X?

Bought a used 2001 X Diesel and I want to know if it has been chipped. What is the easiest way to tell?

Thanks,
FC X

Look at the computer box. If there is a module sticking out of the computer service port, its chipped. Another way to tell if its been chipped (or tuned with a handheld) is to read codes and look for a P0603 code.
