Speed Test
I have a link for you guys. I was just wondering what your actual internet speed was. If you go to www.dslreports.com/stest and then select one of the locations you can do a speed test. Make sure you are not downloading anything else at the same time of using your internet connection. After you are done a page will pop up with your results. Here are mine:
2004-11-15 07:02:49 EST: 1597 / 521
Your download speed : 1635752 bps, or 1597 kbps.
A 199.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 534045 bps, or 521 kbps.
The speed in red is what I am interested in. I used to be around 145 KB per second or so but it has gone up to almost 200.

For all doing this, try the test at differnet times of the day as the level of traffic between your PC and the facility offering the test will vary. This can dramatically impact your result. Also, if you're really into it, do an advanced google on "bandwidth speed test". Try a few of the numerous options. I've hit as high as 9100kbps on download. Also, it's a good idea to clear your temporary internet files when repeating the test on some of the test sites you'll find in your search.

I used dslreports with a different high speed service I had in Cali. The refunded me for 6 months of service since I would use this test everyday and email the results to the head of the support dept. The finally figured it out that I wasn't anywhere near the speed I was paying for.

I couldnt get that site to work for me...so I used http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ which I think is much easier.
Communications = 41 kilobits per second
Storage = 5 kilobytes per second
1MB file download = 3.4 minutes
Subjective rating = Slow
