NEED HELP BAD... 1994 7.3L Diesel Wont START

I have a 1994 7.3l diesel nonturbo trouble starting... This is what i have done so far.. One year ago had IP rubilt twice and installed all new injectors recently i have installed a new IP, all new glow Plugs, glow plug timer relay, all new rubber hoses to the injectors, new pickup pump, new batteries, starter, done compression check had 300lbs on all eight cyclinders, two cyclinders had fuel in them so i installed two new injectors for those cyclinders, installed an injector pump timer, new fuel filter and fuel filter assembly, The truck sometimes will start several time with no problems and then it wont start at all.. If you pull start it or with a little iether it will start right away.. Once it is started it runs perfectly.. Does anyone have any ideas???
thanks
Jason

have you checked the fuel solinoid?
What about the fuel pump?
Does it just crank over and over or does it not crank at all?

why did you have 3 injection pumps in one year!!! i have seen i.p.'s WORN OUT!!! and the truck will still start like a champ. its probably your glowplugs honestly. try this next time it acts up. do not pay attention to the wait to start light(put a piece of duct tape over it). pay attention to your volt meter. watch the volt meter and when you turn the key on the volt guage should be around where 9 or 10 volts is supposed to be, like on the N or O then after 8 seconds, it should jump up. then hit the starter. if it only stays down for like 2 or 3 seconds, cycle the plugs about 5 times then start it. but the wait to start light usually doesn't match up with the actual glow plug on time. unplug it or something, it is junk.

it has a new injector pump and pickup pump, where is the fuel solinoid??
its got all new glow plug and timer and i have cycled the glow plugs and it still wont start.. i jump across the solinoid for the glow plug timer and let the plugs warm up extra long and still didn't help.. i believe it is a fuel problem not a glow plugs but i am open to any and all suggestions..
thanks
Jason

how long was extra long??? over 20 seconds will burn every one up right now. brand new or not. do you watch the volt indicator and see it jump up or get sucked down with the glowplugs. it is very obvious on the guage.
the solonoid he is talking about is the front wire going to the i.p. turn the key on and pull the wire off and put it on and see if it clicks every time. if it does, then its good. also there are fusible links going to the glowplugs, make sure they arent bad, if they seem bad, just do away with them, they are just one more thing to go wrong.dont use too much ether. 1/2 a second is plenty

if you use ether, and she fires right up, that means its not a fuel problem. that means glowplugs/controller or low compression

i guess you got a point there
check the compression
you have to use a hi pressure guage it will peg a normal compression gauge.
89 Ford is right you very well might of fried you GP's being you jumped the solinoid and ran them for too long

Who changed the pump? Is the timing right? Try to use the block heater to see if it will start - but it will take a few hours of heating. Loosen all the fuel line nuts on the injectors and see if you are in fact getting lots of fuel to the injectors. A few seconds of cranking will tell if there is fuel flow. Does it turn over fast enuf to start or is the starter toasted?

Dang, hate these really, really old unresolved threads...being a noob to IDI's I still learn something from reading thru them, though. I learned to be certain the starter has enough oomph from this one-thanks, guys!
