I'm putting a 4-speed manual behind a 76 Lincoln 460. The pilot bearing in the clutch kit I bought seems a whole bunch too tight ~.030-.045 best as I can measure with a yardstick. I got it in, by hell, but now of course the tranny pilot shaft won't go in! Do I need a different pilot bearing?
The pilot bushing I used behind a 460 was a 390 car/truck bronze bushing.
You should be able to get one at any good parts store (or ford dealer).
And No, it should not be that tight!
Jim
I can get either, but the one I have is a bushing.
I have just discussed this with my parts man also. He informs me that the crank in the Lincoln engine is different than the crank in a truck engine.
A 360 bushing in a 460 crank? What is the outside dimension of the 360 bushing? The 460 bushing that I have is just a skosh under 2-7/8" yardstickwise. So I'm thinking that a bushing with an outside diameter of about 2-13/16", or 2-3/4" would be about right.
I'll check with the parts man and see what the 360 bushing measures.
