I just recently bought an 84 Bronco II 5 Speed (4 speed w/ Over Drive). And when I got it, it would only go in some gears and it would pop out real easy. So I took the stick shift off and I put the bar thing back in the cup and it seemed to be OK. A little loose and it worked for a few minutes and then it would pop out so I went and picked up another one out of an 83 Ranger that is the exact same thing except it looks a lot newer and this one has the ball that is under it unlike the one I had (I'm guessing it broke off) and I put it in yesterday and it was working great no problems at all. And today I was driving it and it lost all the gears again when it did it was in first gear so all I have is first gear right now. I haven't taken apart yet to look at it. But, I was wandering if anyone has any ideas of why this might be happening any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
it may have poped out of the cup internally and is stuck in 1st. I have a bronco 2 and it had the same problem my ford dealer had one for me the next day for about 100$. Check your for cracks around the base. and your other shifter was broken i got a spare trans from the junk yard w/shifter missing the ball
Well, I took my shifter off and it turns out that the rubber ball under it busted. I called my Ford Dealership and they said they can't sell me just the ball but, they can order me the whole shifter but, it would cost me $130. I really don't have that to spare right now. Does anyone know if I can get one of these at like an AutoZone or something? Or is this going to just have to be a Junk yard part? Thanks.
junk yard and the best of luck finding one cause this is a common problem mine was a little cheaper cause i'm on good terms with the parts manager at ford i get stuff for wholesale best of luck to you
