ok i had a problem with my tfi module so i decided to change everything module cap and rotor wires coil]all this happen becuase my distributor was loose so my timing was off i finally got it and it started but stopped so i changed the fuel filter too and started again rans fine for a while then i revved it up on the 3rd time it stopped what could it be gas, still need timing, wires, i wish i could pull codes but can't
Why can't you pull codes? Some problem with the computer? If so, I would resolve that issue. Or is it that you don't know how. If this is the case, check the Tech info post at the top of this forum. Ken00 has posted some pages from the factory manual describing how to pull codes. Only requires a jumper wire and a voltmeter/test light.
I would also suggest getting a fuel pressure gauge and seeing what the fuel pressure is and does when it stalls.
ok old man did the codes for me since i don't know how too
guess what nothing not one weird we are at it today since friday trying to get my rig started today has been the closest day could it be gas not reaching
Not one code, or all pass codes? did you run the KOER test?
Computer might be bad, but the computers don't go bad on these very often.
No starts can be pretty basic:
1) Does it have spark?
2) Is the spark close to the right time (near TDC of compression stroke)?
3) does it have adequate fuel pressure to the fuel rail?
4) Fuel injectors firing?
ok got it it has spark, fuel injectors firing, i checked the fuel pumps both of them and the fuel filter and the regulator all good check the inertia switch too. spark is closer to tdc
it's not there yet when i press the gas i keep hearing this pinging and knocking sound
i don't have a timing gun what can i do turn the distributor by hand
someone told me i needed to take out the spout what the heck is the spout a description would be nice i have checked the book but doesn't explain much
See "ignition timing tests" at www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html The SPOUT connector on my '87 BII is kind of hanging over the passenger valve cover. Yellow/green stripe colored wire, if I remember correctly.
When you checked the fuel pumps, did you put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail? What pressure did you read?
There's a hold down bolt on the distributor. It's kind of awkward to get to, but you need to loosen that bolt, rotate the distributor, then tighten it down once you get the timing set right.
fuel pressure was around can't remember we did this at 1in the morning
22-26
i'm going to try and do this by hand if i can't get close to it then i'll have to find a timing gun ,or buy one ?
one more question mrshorty when you have a timing gun do you have to connect it to the shortening bar/spark plug wires? i'm not very clear on that
I'm sure there are a variety of timing lights out there, but the typical inductive timing light has three connectors: One clips to the outside of the #1 spark plug wire and the other two attach to the battery to power the light.
we check the distributor and took the tfi module for testing it was fine
and the pick-up coil was cracked could that be a reason was to why it won't start
i'm still thinking gas is the problem we checked it again today and it came out 30 psi
the spark plug tips were loose got some new plugs just in case no more pinging or knocking sounds so now i'm going to take out the distributor and replace the pick-up coil and see what happens
oh by the way mrshorty thank you so much for your help if it wasn't for you i wouldn't even dare try this again
i now need to find tdc ok does the the rotor need to be aligned with the distributor base and the 1number cap position or does it have to face the number one spark plug opening everything fine now gas, electric, wires just need timing
