Today I finished installing the replacement wire harness new engine module and distributor on my '80 F-150 4.9l. Also got all the vacuum lines hooked up with no unattached hoses.
The truck started on the second try, BUT the starter would not stop running. I shut the engine off and disconnected the Red/Blue wire going to the module, then restarted the engine. It started just fine so I let it run for about 20 minutes before shutting it down, then restarted it several more times just to make sure all was A-OK.
When I tried reconnecting the Red/Blue wire to the module same problem over again, so I left the wire disconnected.
Any advice as to what or why the Red/Blue wire is causing problems with the starting circuit?
I seem to remember some of the aftermarket modules may have had their colors reversed on the red and white wires. The position and function are correct, but the colors are wrong. Check this out. This would explain your situation, since the red wire is the hot wire from the ignition, and the white wire is the start retard wire. If you have the red/blue going to a hot in run wire, then it's going to try and start all the time.
