Question what do you think?

I was day dreaming today and had this thought. What if you had a v8 and instead of having each piston fire one at a time, the crank and cam was set up that two fire at the same time. It would be a big four banger that would beable to spin. Has someone did this before?

No, I think he still wants a V8, but like having 1 and 8 firing at the same time, 2 and 7, 3 and 6, and 4 and 5.

And I think Pikachu's right about the balancing thing. Even if you could get it balanced, any variation in fuel or spark will throw that balance way off, and the computer will probably overcompensate somewhere else.

I'm not saying it can't be done, it would just be too impractical.

I guess the object would to be the substantial increase in power. In order to get this, wouldnt you have to also double the RPM? Or am I lost here, again.

I think the balance would be a problem if opposing banks fired and the same time yet if you had like 2 and 4 or 2 and 8 as long as they are on the same bank, the balance would be fine. I'm not sure how much the recipicating mass would be reduced, but the load would be spread over a greater area giving the motor more strength.

Sort of, i was thinking that at some point the size of the rods, stroke, and pistons size would become to great for any real higher rpm band and if the recipicating mass could spread over a greater area, great strength could be had there by alowing the a higher rpm.

I have not heard about that.... i know that all v10 have there own sound. I suppose this because of the 36 degree throw on the crank and the fact that a v8's firing order fires two physical close cylinders there by giving giving a beat through the exhaust. the straight six and v10's don't have that firing order so tone is more flat. i have heard that ford changed the firing order of there v10 to give it a better sound? anybody heard of that?a Va V8's firing order fires two physically close cylinder's right after each other8's firing order fires two physically close cylinder's right after each other
