I think I read that the 79 has a better power steering setup. I believe the sales numbers were higher so you have more donors.

No argument with the '79 for quite a few reasons, not in the least is the way better lighting. Am not knowlegeable about the '77 front end but it sounds like there's info. there that might make that the front end to use.

I'd be going with the 79 as well and the tie rod and drag link front end on it.

If memory serves me right the 77 had the 4 piece front end with the centre link
which gives you more parts and joints to wear out and were prone to shimmy a lot easier than the '78 and '79 which were the only 2 years built this way untill they started back into the straight axle front end again and manual hubs in
2001.

A good after market steering stabilizer totally eliminates any wobble even with monster tires and they are much less hassle to lift . I have only had to replace the tie rod and drag link on my Ford twice in 26 years and many more miles than most trucks of any breed will ever see.

To clarify when I said front end I should have said grill and headlights. If you want the LOOK of the 77 and the better truck (79)

That is a matter of personal preference, my opinion is a 79 and there is not a better looking year truck that FORD has come out with. As far as suspension the 79 is better than the 77.
