I am amazed at the wealth of topics on these forums, and this has probably been answered, but here goes. I'm a small independent dealer and I sale mostly powerstrokes. I have had three or four people look at two of my 6.0 trucks and they all went straight to the door sticker and looked at the build date. Some have told me they only want trucks built after March of 03 and others have told me it has to be after May of 03. WHAT'S UP? I've ask Service peolple at the local dealerships (that's plural) and can't seem to get a straight answer. Both trucks I have are 03's (miles in the 30's and 40's) and both are before May and both run great to me. I would like to be educated correctly on this in order to be able to talk intelligently with potential buyers. Thanks for the help! ps..... I was hesitant to buy some 6.0's but 7.3's are getting harder to find and I hope these turn out at least half a good as the 7.3's , I just sold a 7.3 with 504,384 miles and it still runs great......I am very pleased with the 6.0 also quiet , powerful, good mileage, etc..........just hope they sell! Rob
C94 injectors were replaced with the current C95 injectors. The early 03 built in March 03 and before have the C94s. There were failures on the C94s. I have over 25,000 on C94s and they are running fine. There is a lot of mis information about them.
The door post is not the engine build date. The engine build date is normally on the sticker on the FICM on the driver side rear valve cover.
The replacement of the C94 injectors to the C95 injectors started around
(approx) Apr 17 2003. I have a May 1 2003 engine build date and it has the
C95 injectors. Look on the driver's side on the engine around the valve cover
and you should find the engine build date tag.
Good luck, EJ
What other info you looking for? That is the crucial issue. Some critic of Ford's publishes a online mag called the Blue Oval News. It is not affiliated with Ford and is extremely critical of Ford. BON called the C94 injectors "ticking time bombs" and said they were "has proved fatal to the engine". While there were C94 injectors that failed. Many are still in production today. Failures simply resulted in the failing injector to be replaced.
My old 03 6.0 (1/03 build) had the 'hanging' drip from the bell housing from almost new, as a number of early engines (not all) did.. Ford fixed it eventually, but one thing I noticed when 'peeking' under all that I could at the time at the dealer, was that a few were an oily mess on the underside.. Some spotted the ground 'reasonably' well.. Some were barely noticeable..
Also, mine had the 'Normal' according to Ford, pop/clunk at rollaway 2-3MPH that cost me a sale, and was eventually a trade off candidate...
Sure ran well though......

RobsRedFord:
The quote above from HP is true; it says in the owner's manual for a 4x4 tranny that there might be a "clunk" when after going from reverse to drive for the first 2-3 mph or 20-30 feet, usually which ever occurrs first. I have found that this can be reduced to almost nothing if you let the truck proceed by idling forward, but not push on the accelerator for a small distance.
Although I do not have the book in front of me, it would be worth your while to look this up and point it out to potential buyers if they question that noise and avoid the loss of a sale like what happened to HP.
