I will be plugging my 7.3 in this winter at home when necessary. I am going to purchase a 25 ft outdoor cord today. Will the 14 gauge cord work or should I buy 12 gauge cord?
Thanks Bluemonster

14 gauge should be fine. We are not talking about huge current draw here. Also 25ft is a pretty short distance. I have used a 75ft 14 gauge cord without popping the GFI.

Lowes also sells a timer made by Intermatic. Works great, set mine to come on 3 hrs before I leave in the morning and shot off about the time I leave.
Hey mech' , does that 3 hrs. warm the motor when it's really cold ? Seems like you'ld save quite a bit of money over the winter not running the block heater all night .
You dont run the block heater all nite. Get a heavy duty timer and set it to come on about 2.5 or 3 hrs before you start the engine. This will not use much money and will definitely save the crank time on the starter.
