Diesel with Automatic

I posted this on the Ford Tranny forum as well.

My son is considering purchasing a 1995 Diesel Ford van with automatic transmission. I seem to recall some issues in the early 1990's with transmission problems behind the diesel's. The van runs fine right now, I just wanted to see if the are any particular concerns about this combination.
Also, what type of fuel milage is typical with this combo (3.55 gears)?

They had them fixed by the '95 model year. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a 90 non turbo E350 with 3.55. I get about 14 and 17.
