I am getting ready to order the Master Power disc brake kit for my 68-f-100. Any last minute words of advice? I have the total poly bushing kit and will use new king pins.
Not to be smart, but wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to pirate parts off of a 73 to 79 than to buy a kit? All the tie rod ends, bearings, brake calipers, brake pads, and rotors are over the counter items at any auto parts store. All you realy need are the spindles. Those can't be that expensive at the U pull it yard. If you lived closer to me, I know where you could get them for next to nothing. I think I would do more research before buying a kit. Just my oppinion, but I'm one of those guys that like to see how cheap I can actualy do something (and get it done right) and half of the fun is scouring the wrecking yards.
I live in Denver and have been working on the old Fords for years. In the last 10 years the supply of the old f-100/f-150 has dried up around here. You never see them in the paper and rarely in the junk yards. Right after I posted this I went and looked at the only 67-78 in the paper. Not one piece of usable sheet metal, good running 302 engine, and they want $1500 for it. I have been looking for a donor for the last year and have come up with nothing (unless I want to drive to Alabama or something).
Besides I work and go to school full time and have a family, time is a major factor. By the time you add up all the hours searching for the parts and the cost it is easier to just get the kit sent to your front door.
If I can get the guy with the 78 talked down to $1200 I might just go for the truck, at least that way I can get a whole truck for the same price as the kit.
Jdenver. Didn't realize there was a parts shortage up there. I live in central Texas, and there are a ton of 67 to 79 trucks in the bone yards, and there are quite a few in the paper. You still shouldn't need any thing from a wrecking yard except for spindels, correct? If this is the case, send me a private message, and I'll hook you up. They don't like us trading or selling on the posts. I have a set of spindles laying in the yard, everything else can be bought from Auto zone or some where like it. Your last post breaks my heart. I know parts will get scarce down here one of these days too. One wrecking yard near me just sent 3 or 4 73 to 79 trucks to the crusher. I was going there to buy a bed for mine, and I was a day late. Your truck is 2 wheel drive, correct?
