I just looked up the numbers for the new F150 vs. the old one, and the new one - that I said is about the same length - is actually a full 12" *longer* than the old F150. My old one had a homemade front bumper/brushguard and an aftermarket drop rear bumper, so those must have thrown off my measurement...oops. Or, like I said, I'm just an idiot.
has anyone seen the new expiditions?? ford has a whole thing on em on there site. there more square, comparable to the explorer. if ya ask me that might just make room for a new I-6 for those other I-6 enthusist in here. that might work if it were carried over the the f-150's. might be able to bring back some other windser's as well.
i think they should go back to the down to basic solid axle noisy big straight six or 8 cylinder days were the only options were to power winshield wiper or not. like the old power wagons. that would elimnate all theses people that want trucks cause there hip. if it werent for this new trend most truck would still be rough and tough.
i like the fact that dogdes only offer rear abs and no dash mounted shifters for 4 weel drive. but if ur gonna do it right do it ford, manual locking hubs and floor mounted shifter.
even mags. are complaining that the trucks have to harsh of suspension.
I think you hit it right on the head. Trucks are pleasing to the general public's eyes now because trucks (and suv's)are IN. I hate ALL the new trucks, not that I wouldn't turn one down if someone gave me one. I prefer the 1978 to 1986 Ford pick-em up trucks. They look like trucks. They look like you could run em thru the woods and not loose a piece of fiberglass (or whatever). Give me something made outta metal. Otherwise,I might as well drive a new car. I would rather put 15 thousand into a 79 or '84 F-150 than buy a new truck. My 1 cent worth. That's all I can afford.
The heavy duty fords were desighned after there transport truck line when they had it... if you look at there trans trucks to the heavy duty trucks you could mini the size of the larger truck and it would be identical to the HD Ford thats how they got there desighn not by copying dodge.... the new dodges look like CRAP !! like they tried to fit through a 2 narrow walls and pushed everything to the center of the truck ! ok now u want a copy of a truck ! look at Toyota's fullsize to the F150 its almost a match very little difference ! Toyotas should stick to Rice Rockets. GmC i dont mind there new front ends on there trucks as for Chev that bar across the front looks real bad not to menchon that big BAND AID right in the front of there trucks... just my opinion...
Agree, the GMC looks a whole lot better than the Ch**y. Every Ch**Y truck has that stupid horizontal bar all the way across the front. Also, the Toyota does look very much like the F150.
I agree, the Toyota does look a lot like the new F-150. I can only hope that trends change and Ford does away with the new body style on the half tons. I'm a big fan of the early to mid 90's body style. I just always felt that it had a good blend of slight curvature for a some what modern sleek look and a bit of boxiness for the "I use this truck as a truck" work look. Oh how I miss those days.

This has been an interesting discussion and everyone has brought up some good points. I agree with many of you that the new SD are some of the best looking *new trucks*. My favorite is still the 78-79 square headlight fords...and will be until someone, anyone, makes a decent looking half ton, I don't like any of the new half tons. They are all to "hip and trendy" looking for me.
Since jasonb's on the subject, I'll mention something I've come to realize lately on my preferences of styling...
Those 70's Ford interiors weren't too bad either, plus I like the key on the left dashboard.
I had a '79 F100, and it sure was a great truck. Best truck there ever was, in fact, until i bent the frame to heck while jumping it way too high. Ah, the mistakes of our youth...
