How much is too much?

I like good looking trucks, Trucks that have a billet grill, nice wheels and tires, maybe even a hood scoop. But how much is too much? It's all a matter of taste. I saw this chevy dually the other day, first off I think Chevy trucks are fugly, but that's not the issue at hand. The truck had just about every exterior attachment that you could buy for a truck! It was real bad looking. He everything from three antennas and fender flares to excess running lights and air horns. He even had a wing on the top of his bedcap, and it wasn't the kind of wing for air deflection when hauling box trailers. It looked like what you see on a ricer.
So please Ford truck fellows make your truck look good , but don't go off the deep end.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I like to do a few things to my truck. I also use it for haulin stuff so I don't feel like dumping 10 grand of mods in it, it works great just how i have it. What i can't stand is lowering trucks, what is the point? You can't do anything and you let sparks fly when you take a speed bump too fast. I mostly see chebbys doin this, but some fords too.. Oh well..

Well.....s'poze 'somebody's' truck's gotta look silly....
I agree that nonfunctioning attachments and apendiges, especialy an excess of them, look comical. But that's my view.
Usable, functioning excessories, on the other hand are coool.
I have a spotlight on the roof o' my '76 F250. It comes in handy at night getting out of tight spots on the dirt mountain roads around here. It's also useful for any night time work outdoors. I think it looks cool on my truck. I do a heck of a lot of hauling in it too....It's D'Mighty Ford!!

How much is too much?

Some might call my truck kind of excessive: Spot light, 4foot white cb antenna's on mirrors, semi stack, 2-55watt o/r lights ontop of the box right at the back(acting as backup lights), and a mack bulldog on the hood.....Would you call that too much??? hehe, I think it looks damn good though.

I'm also in the process of putting driving lights on the front bumper

I like my trucks and cars to be clean, there's no need for 12 sets of driving lights, and a 5ver wing, (unless you tow a fifth wheel). I put on a lund visor, some vent shades on the doors, and a set of air horns right behind the grille.(Couldn't stand the thought of them being on the roof.)

Instead of dressup add-on junk, I opt for running gear mods to make the rig hold up better. Things like adding more leaves to the rear, and good shocks, I also used the rear spindles, axles. and drums for a duallie so I can have the duallie 3in drums in the back. That alone made for much better braking, and only moved my rear wheels out about 1in., if I don't say anything, you can hardly tell. When I went thru the front end, I made my own reverse shackle setup,(I didn't like the fact that the avail kits added lift, plus I had a plow frame in the way. I didn't want to have to raise the rear end due to the liftgate.) Also double steering dampers, made up a drain system so when I drop the coolant, all I need to do is open two valves, and the coolant drains from the radiator and the engine in a controlled manner. Removed the skidplate fro under my t-case and made a crossmember that has attachments to the gearbox.(I don't want to break another tranny rear case.)

As far as the motor goes, a little turbo tinkering, some bigger exaust with a glasspack.(Sounds cool as hell, nice and lumpy with some turbo whine mixed in.) Use a FL-1995 oil filter for a PSD, a little extra filter material didn't hurt. (Thanks to 94Turbodiesel for that idea), I made up 5/8 vents for the tanks, and gutted the filler so I can fill the tanks in less that one hour. Installed an electric fuel pump with a pushbutton under the hood for quick purging after a filter change. Thats about it.

Right now I'm looking into a set of Rickson 19.5's, but I'm wondering if a commercial tire might make the ride too harsh.

Function before style. Some people say my truck doesn't look good due to the 8 Lightforce lights on it. 4 big ones and 4 mid sized. I like to be able to see when I drive long distance at night. About the only thing that could be called non functional is the moon visor. But it blocks the sun and lights up the top of the cab, better visibilty for other vehicles. Winch on the nose and AUX fuel tank in the bed. Over 800 mile range on a gas truck.

Low riders are a waste of a good truck.

It's ok as long as the owner enjoys the mods.
I tend to go with the mods I need for getting the bronco over-the-sand for surf fishing and for drives through the Pinelands: push bumper, safety equipt, tow straps/chains, etc.

I like "real" upgrades, items that actually improve performance. I really don't like trucks that look like somebody went to Wal-Mart and bought every bolt-on item they could find.

Nice wheels and tires
A good clean exhaust system, subtle, not overbearing 18" long 4" wide kicker pipes sticking out the back.
Suspensions lifts, not Body Lifts.

I guess, I'm saying "Keep it Real".

I believe that a truck has to satisfy and please only one person - the guy/gal that owns it. The opinions of others are theirs to have but are secondary to the satisfaction of the owner. If you want to lift your truck and put 14 lights on top or if you want to scrape the ground and that pleases you - go for it!
