EGT guage guys

I am looking for the guys that have their EGT sensor mounted on the driver side manifold. I would like to know what the idle temp is from you guys. I have my EGT mounted in the turbo downpipe and I would like to see how much difference or any difference at all between the two at idle. Mine idle temp. is 200-300 dgrees I think but I will check.

I just did somewhat of an unplaned test on wends. I sat in the idleing truck for 2 hours talking to a girl i had just met. everytime i looked at the guage it read between 200-300. My probe is in the drivers side manifold pointing straight down to the ground at the last cylinder.

Hmm, thats odd...mine never drops below about 375, and stays at about 475-500 when idling in gear (I suppose the extra load from the TC requires a little more fuel). Would the slight difference in placement of the probe in the manifold attribute to that much difference, or is my truck just an oddball?

Mine typically idles between 275 and 325, mostly under 300. If the AC is running that will usually keep the temp up a bit above 300.

My probe is inserted on the flat spot on the drivers side manifold near the rear most cylinder.

Mine is between 3 and 4 hundered degrees. I will be putting one in my DP in a couple of weeks but I don't really expect much difference in temp at idle. I want to see what the difference is under load.

About 340 at idle out of gear. Located in manifold on driver's side.

Mine idles around 350ish or more. Just depends on the weather. THe other night it was 40 degrees with a bunch of wind and it idled at 299.

In gear, mine idles around 400. Installed in manifold, just under last cylinder. Out of gear, idles around 350-ish.

Mine is mounted in driverside manifold. Temps run about 300 - 325 unloaded. A/C on bumps them up to 350 - 375.

When I installed my thermocouple, I wasn't sure how far "in" the tip should be. I slid it in until it touched and backed it out approx 5/8" and tightened the compression nut.

Perhaps some of the differences we see is based on the actual positioning of the tip of the thermocouple?

I was thinking the same thing dsweger... the thermocoupler provided with the x-monitor was somewhat long. I'm thinking I may be touching the back wall of the manifold. One thing that might indicate this is that when I am coasting, the EGT's drop quickly, but then they increase when I finally come to a stop. Is this from the residual heat in the manifold steel? I wonder, is there a coupler or spacer that be used to shorten the length of the thermocoupler in the manifold? Something with female threads at one end to screw the thermocoupler into, and then male threads at the other end to put into the manifold... Anybody seen anything like this?
