Hey all, The rear ABS died on my '88 F-350 Diesel, tried replaceing the wire harness fron the frame to the rear diff, no luck, what else can I look for? I need help quick because its winter now and this truck is deadly on the ice without it, the rear brakes lock before the front! I assume there is a brainbox under the dash to controll it, should I be looking that that or the pump first?
Hell,my ABS is really off. Back only locks, front doesnt. Then if you apply a little too much pressure, wheel lock. ABS light doesnt comeon. Front doesnt lock either. Just keeps rollin. It's scarry knowing if I gotta stop hard, only my rear wheels will stop me and this is my only car and daily driver.
the wire harness to the rear diff would not be the cause because the speedo probably would die too. I had a similar problem with my brakes. the back would lock up after being stomped to the floor because brakes would feel as if they were gliding ( while pulsing) then send me into panic braking. found
problem with abs. Here we don't have ice so I disconnected valve harness
that is located inside frame rail under driver side and tested base brake. it was fine so that is all I use. I would recommend starting there I think it is the proportionate valve.

Does your ABS light come on when you start your truck?
You should have a red brake warning light and a yellow ABS warning light.
My E-Brake warning light comes on when I try to crank it,but on the "On" position,Its off. And ABS light lights up on Ignition "On" Position, then shut off as I go to crank.
I checked into my ABS Wiring and found that the wires are bad between the controller and the firewall, I checked all the wiring, the valves etc. and all seems fine, the only place I get nothing is the plug right at the controller so my guess is it is between the firewall and the controller. Oh, the controller is fine, I hooked it up in another truck and all was well.
