Does Anyone Else Have Problems With Front Hubs Not Unlocking??
Whenever I use my 4X4 and disengage it... it won't always disengage. I know this cuz when I make too sharp of a turn, banging is heard from the front wheels and you can feel it.
Has anyone else experienced this and how do I fix it??
It depends on what year his truck is (not in his post...) The old auto hubs needed to be backed up to unlock, the newer ESOF ones just need a little time and motion to unlock, unless they're really stuck/broken. With the ESOF if you're in 4x4 and then go to 2WD because you're about to turn hard into a parking spot and don't want to bind the drivetrain, you're probably going to get the front wheels dancing because the hubs are still locked in - it's even worse if only one is still locked in! I try to plan ahead and take it out of 4x4 a fair distance before any turning if I can. The front end dance won't really hurt anything, it's just annoying.
Ooops... it's a 2000 5.4L
They are the automatic hubs and I usually leave them in AUTO but they rarely seems to unlock completely. I've done the back-up thing and getting hard on the brakes... doesn't help. I hope I don't need to replace them... expensive S.O.B.'s
Anyone else have any ideas??
My hubs have not worked right since new (04 f350 4k miles) but if you back up while turning wheels left/right slightly seems to do the trick, sometimes i turn axle u joint while turning from auto to lock works.
I had this same problem for about a year on the 99 F250. Finally I said enough is enough and removed the factory hubs and bought a set of Warns, problem fixed.
