Talking Fuel injection questions.

Fuel injection. I'm thinking of putting fuel injection in my truck restoration. Has anybody done it? What brand do you recommend? Have you had any problems? Woul you do it again? Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a 302/5.0 out of a 1988 Crown Victoria. My 55 F100 get 22MPG. SO far other than being an idiot riding around without a fully functioning gas gauge and letting the truck run out of gas no problems thus far. Would do it again. See my gallery

Mine has a 5.0, complete with AOD from a 89 F150. No road miles yet but it is in and working, I think in the end, it will prove to be worth the trouble.

I am planning on a 5.0,T5 out of an 89 Mustang for my 55 and am underway pullling the 5.0. The OEM EFI is a nice route to go and if you aren't planning on hot rodding the motor much, will work very well. The MAFS EFI out of an 89 or newer 5.0 Mustang, t-bird, MK VII, is a little more forgiving for mods than the SD EFI found on the trucks. I think the last 5.0 trucks might have gone Mass Air Flow as well, but I'm not sure on that one. The key with doing the OEM system is to get a donor vehicle or at least get the harness, computer and all of the connected sensors from the donor, to keep it working right without check engine lights coming on. You certainly need the O2 sensors in the down pipes or in a header collector but the cats are not needed to make it run right.

If the 5.0 is not to your liking, Ford did use EFI on 90's 351W motors, I believe and there may have even been some EFI 460's.

The other alternative is an aftermarket kit and there are a few out there but they're expensive , need to be programed and this programming benefits hugely from some dyno time. If you seriously hot rod the motor, this may be a better way to go. I believe these kits are available for a wide range of motors.

Regards, John
