well in the absense of an empty keg a toyota, or honda will make a fair subsitute, just back it under, and lower the jack, just make sure to allow enough clearence for settling, and crunching but after that you are good to go
The front of the truck has leaf springs, and the shackle is in rear. If you have time, pictures would be helpful. Have a great t-day, and thanks again for the information. Jeff
If you've got a rear shackle it will be EASY to gain a couple inches on the front. I missed the steel shop today so I'll pick up the materials Friday morning and hopefully have pics of all the parts on Saturday for you.
Don't eat too much turkey or your truck will sit lopsided like mine.
Ok Ivan, so let me make sure I have this straight. I got a 79 parts truck, axles and all, even the whole body (for $150 ) to do an SAS with the front axle. So since it has the rear axle and leaf assembly I can get the parts to do your shackle bracket swap. What I need to do is take the front bracket from the rear springs, and use them to replace the shackle hangers (rear spring rear bracket) in the truck I want to lift.
Correct?
Of course I'll be doing an SAS next, along with gears, etc... - but it looks like this method for the back shouldn't be too difficult.
You got it! You'll have to drill new holes once you get the hanger in place. I am using the upper rear hole from the original bracket and then had to drill out the other 3. You'll also want to go to a 1/2" grade 8 bolt for these hangers as their holes are slightly larger than the rear bracket's.
Hey, Ivan, did you get your front end done this weekend? I'm really interested in seeing how you did it. After reading this post, the rear flip looks to be a breeze, but the front looks a bit more complicated. Ya gotta get that tech article written........
I just got the garage wired this morning (220 so I can use my own welder) and ended up having to work the rest of the day so I won't be able to do the front until tomorrow. I plan to have pics tomorrow night.
i did the shackle flip on my 79 F-250 4x4 two days ago,and we just did it tonight on my uncle's 72 F-100 (with 73-79 body)..it lifted my truck around 3-4"..just guessing by looking,we didn't measure...but it really didn't lift the F-100 much..probably around 1-2"....i think the shackle/bracket wasn't as long or something...also,doing the shackle flip makes it a necessity to use a body lift, doesn't it?...(i don't have a bed,and neither does my uncle,yet)..because of the shackle bracket sticking up over the frame so high..?...or am i an idiot?...
also..i went to Advance Auto today...and i was looking around, and they sell a kit (if you want to call it that, all it is is 4 pieces of metal) that drops the shackle down, and i'm going to use them on the front to raise it like that on my truck,we'll probably put it on tommorow, and hopefully i'll have some pics of my truck with all 4 tires on it soon..
I used a kit similar to this on my '59 Ford 4x4. It worked to give the lift I wanted, but since the two shackle pieces weren't tied together, I got some side-to-side play in my front end. I ended up welding a short stiffener in between the two pieces, which helped.
If those 4 pieces of metal are intended to be used as extended shackles, I'd be cautious. If you're going to use longer shackles, they need to have a stiffener welded in-between the two pieces of metal to reduce the side-to-side sway. The longer the shackles, the more leverage, so if there's no stiffener tieing the shackle together, you may get some unneeded side to side play.
There's a company that sells extended shackles, and they are an "H" configuration.
Yes, I'll be hacking that box up as soon as I get my flares back. I'm also getting rid of my side tank so the dual fillers won't be needed but I'm sure I'll find use for it somehow. Monster, I've seen those midwest houses on the news everytime a tornado rolls through . . . it doesn't surprise me that the box is worth more. Sorry guys, I'll shut up now.
Instead of cluttering up a thread about a rear lift with info about the front I just started a seperate one. My post for the new hangers is here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=312413 I also have a seperate gallery for the front lift with all the pictures and a little info too. One of these days I'll get all this added to my website.
Don't feel bad ivan that is the same kinda comment I get from my folks, every tornado season, they keep trying to get me to move back to WA, and have even gone as far as finding me several places around moses lake to come look at. The last time they were out here I met them in DesMoines with the semi (theyhad thier trailer with them), and they followed me home, we had to stop about half way home becuase of the wind, and found out there was a tornado with 10 miles of us kinda scary though.
been looking at your stuff might have to do the shackle flip on the new ranger I need a couple of inches in the rear with the new tires to make it look right it seems to look like it is squating in the rear, only problem is the eb frame has them welded on instead of rivetted on, so I don't know whether to grind them off and reweld them or make new brackets completely. ONe of those things just can't figure which would be the best way to go.
