I'm looking to get a remote starter for my '94. Yep, it's come to this point of laziness!! I've done a search, and found that they range from $70 to well over $500.
My laziness aside, I'm looking for a simple and reliable system that isn't too expensive (IMO - $500 is a bit extreme). I don't want nor do I need one with an alarm, bells & whistles, etc. Now, does anyone have experience with the remote starters, and what about the cheap versus the expensive systems? this). Suggestions/opinions are sought. I want to get into a warm Bronco every time this winter!!!
Sorry I could not find anything on pricing and best models for the coin. Hope someone can help you out! Good Luck! By the way...hopefully you can do a write up /tech article on the install (with pics of course)!
As soon as I find one - with this board's help or not(grumble, grumble)... - I'll post my results, to include a "how-to" on the install and pics. Thanks.
I just instaled a bulldog rs602e in my fourdoor. I bought it used off of ebay. It has most of the bells and whestles. remote start, alarm, keyless entry, dome light supervision, and a trunk release that I am going to try to use to put my rear window down.
It came with good instructions, on line help, and a phone number. Ford truck door locks need two extra relays. I am useing the horn instead of a siren, that took a relay. The dome light supervision uses a relay, and the rear window trick will need a relay.
The price is for bells and whistles, and the distance it will work. I think walmart had a bulldog remote starter for under $50.
If you have any spacific questions, just let me know and I will try to help.
I've got a Viper alarm/keyless entry/remote start on my 87 Bronco and it works great. I believe its model 550. It's from 1998 but I just installed it 2 years ago and it was new in the box. Sure is nice to start it up from inside on those winter mornings to get the frost off the windows!
i to have a bulldog, but it just simply starts the rig. i got it cheap and a friend installed it. i have it tied into my parking lights so i know its on, only bummer is if the head light switch is pulled out the truck will stay running hehe. i need to get a few other relays so i have keyless entry and fix that light switch issue.

Add a diode to that wire that goes to the park lights, that'll fix it.
does anyone know if i could use a remote starter onmy 79 bronco. im kinda iffy bout it cuz its carbed and doesnt idle to well on cold start on its own....any ideas?
I did alot of research before i bought my remote start. Most people recomended Directed Electronics products. They make Viper, Python, etc. I watched ebay and found a new Avital Avstart 3300 for $40, it is made by the company mentioned above. It is a remote start and keyless entry only, no alarm or extra stuff. I helped a friend put a bulldog unit in a 2000 Dodge Caravan. The Directed Electronics unit seemed much better designed than the bulldog unit, it has external relays and seems to be a heaver duty unit.
Its not a bad install If you can install a car sound system you can put one of these in.
Just use a 12v power checker I use a cheap one that has a smiple light probe.
I did this to make sure wires in the manual matched the wires on the truck.
"did what there supposed to !"
One thing I did to make it easy is drop down the steering column only 2 bolts hold it up then you can get at the harness to tap into it.
According to the makers of all remote starters I've seen, the vehicle has to be fuel injected and an automatic transmission.
I am not sure about the fuel injection, but you can install it on a manual transmission. You just have to bypass the clutch safety switch that requires you to step on the clutch to start the car. Problem is, if you leave it in gear watch out when you hit that button. Friend of mine put is Nissan into a pole one morning cause he left it in first, not pretty.
