99 explorer tapping sound when first start

I just bought a 99 explorerXLT . The thing runs great, smooth, plenty of power, 4.0L SOHC, 83,000 miles on it. The problem it has is....when you start the car when it is cold, you can hear a tapping or knocking sound. It only lasts maybe a half a second then it clears up. It doesnt do it when you start the car after it is warm. It seems like it might be a lifter or something?? It sounds deeper or more solid than a lifter but not like a rod either. Maybe the oil pump or pressure? Any ideas what it might be or how to fix it? you think any oil/engine treatment might take care of the problem? a friend recommended Lucas treatment.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Barry

My mother's got a 2k X, it's got the 5.0 and does the same thing every morning, or after setting a long period of time. I was told it's no problem, just a fraction of a second where there's no oil @ the top of the engine. have never found anything to remidy this but my mechanic says it won't hurt anything.....

My 2.9L with 1,200 mines hates starting in cold weather! When it's warm, it's nice and quiet though. When you start it you'll notice that the tapping stops when the oil pressure reaches a certain level.
